# How to Set Up Registrant Monitoring on WhoisFreaks

Written By [Qasim](https://pk.linkedin.com/in/qasimleoo), WhoisFreaks Team Published: July 14, 2026, Last Updated: July 14, 2026

Registrant monitoring tracks all domains owned by a specific registrant; identified by name, email, or company. It detects when the registrant acquires new domains, drops existing ones, or when domains in their portfolio get updated.

This is particularly useful for tracking competitor domain portfolios, monitoring your own organization's domain footprint, or watching domains owned by known threat actors.

This guide walks you through setting up registrant monitoring from scratch.

## Prerequisites

Before setting up registrant monitoring, you need:

* **A WhoisFreaks account:** If you don't have one yet, follow our [Getting Started with WhoisFreaks](https://whoisfreaks.com/resources/tutorial/getting-started-with-whoisfreaks-how-to-sign-up-and-get-your-api-key) tutorial to sign up.
* **An active Registrant Monitoring subscription:** Choose a plan that fits your needs from the [Registrant Monitoring pricing page](https://whoisfreaks.com/pricing/monitoring-packages).

### Pricing Plans

## Setting Up Your Registrant Monitor

### Step 1: Navigate to the Registrant Monitor

Log in to your WhoisFreaks account and navigate to the **Monitoring** section. Click on the **Registrant Monitor** tab.

### Step 2: Add a Registrant to Monitor

Fill in at least one of the required fields to identify the registrant:

| Field | Description | Required |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Registrant Name | Full name of the domain registrant | At least one required |
| Registrant Email | Email address used for registration | At least one required |
| Registrant Company | Organization or company name | At least one required |

You can also fill in **optional fields** for more precise matching:

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| Phone | Registrant's phone number |
| Fax | Registrant's fax number |
| Zip Code | Postal/ZIP code |
| Country | Country name |
| State | State or province |
| City | City name |

Click **"Add to Monitor"** when ready.

> **Tip:** The more fields you fill in, the more precise the monitoring results. Using just a common name might return many unrelated domains.

### Step 3: View Your Monitored Registrants

After adding a registrant, they appear in the monitoring table:

| Column | Description |
| --- | --- |
| Registrant | Name, email, or company (whichever was provided) with field type badge |
| Last Changed | When domain changes were last detected |
| View Changes | Opens the change history |
| Status | Active/Inactive toggle |
| Actions | Edit and Delete buttons |

Each registrant row shows a badge indicating which field types were used to identify them (Name, Email, Company).

### Step 4: Edit Registrant Details

To update optional fields or correct information:

1. Click the **"Edit"** button on the registrant's row
2. The edit panel opens showing all fields
3. Update any optional fields (Phone, Country, State, City, etc.)
4. Toggle **Active** on/off as needed
5. Click **"Edit Monitor"** to save

### Step 5: View Registrant Changes

When changes are detected, click **"View Changes"** to open the change history.

The registrant change's view shows four categories, similar to brand monitoring:

| Category | Description |
| --- | --- |
| Domains Added | New domains registered by this registrant |
| Domains Dropped | Domains no longer owned by this registrant |
| Domains Updated | Domains with WHOIS record changes |
| Domains Discovered | Previously unknown domains found for this registrant |

Each domain in the list has a lookup dropdown for quick access to WHOIS, DNS, SSL, and history tools; identical to the brand monitor's lookup feature.

### Step 6: Download Changes as JSON

Each date's changes can be downloaded as a JSON file.

Click the **"Download As JSON"** button below each date's change entry. The file contains the complete domain lists for all four categories.

### Step 7: Set Up Telegram Notifications

Registrant monitoring supports **Telegram notifications** for change alerts.

1. Find the **Telegram Notifications** card in the registrant monitor section
2. Click the **Telegram login widget** to link your account
3. Toggle **"Enable Notifications"** on

You will receive Telegram messages whenever new brand changes are detected.

You will receive a Telegram message whenever new domain changes are detected for your monitored registrants.

### Step 8: Pause or Remove a Registrant Monitor

**Pause:** Toggle the **Status** switch to Inactive. Monitoring stops but the registrant stays in your list.

**Remove:** Click the **trash icon** to permanently delete the monitor and free up a slot.

### Summary

| Step | Action |
| --- | --- |
| 1 | Navigate to Registrant Monitor tab |
| 2 | Enter registrant name, email, or company |
| 3 | Optionally fill in phone, country, city, etc. |
