A surcharge is the cost for extra API requests beyond your plan quota. Instead of blocking requests when you exhaust your included quota, we allow additional usage and bill it under surcharge when applicable. In the sections below, we’ll cover:
Surcharge credits don’t apply to one-off credit purchases. They’re only available for monthly or yearly API subscriptions.
Surcharge lets users continue making requests after they have fully used their subscription plan quota. Once usage reaches 100%, overage is available in fixed tiers of 20% of the original plan quota. To unlock additional tiers beyond the first 20%, the user must pay for the current tier first. This staged unlocking helps prevent abuse. Payments are processed automatically, so there is no interruption to the service as long as the payment is successful.
You are pre-charged for a set number of API requests at the start of your billing cycle.

Surcharge pricing is calculated as 2× the plan’s base price, referenced against the plan’s full quota to determine the per-request overage rate. For example, if a user is on a 15,000 API credits/month plan priced at $30/month, the surcharge reference amount becomes $60 (2 × $30) for 15,000 surcharge credits. This yields an overage unit rate of $60 ÷ 15,000 = $0.004 per extra request.

Assume a user is on a 15,000 requests/month plan. Here’s what happens when they exceed the limit.
At the start of your billing cycle, you’re charged for 15,000 requests, which you can use until your renewal date (based on whether your plan is monthly or yearly).
The moment you hit request 15,001, the system adds 3,000 extra requests (20% of 15k) to your account.
If you use those 3,000 extra requests, the system triggers the next tier, adding 6,000 requests (40% of 15k).
