How to Set Up Brand Monitoring on WhoisFreaks

Written By Qasim, WhoisFreaks Team Published: July 08, 2026, Last Updated: July 08, 2026

Brand monitoring scans the entire domain namespace for domains that contain your brand term. It detects newly registered domains, dropped domains, updated domains, and discovered domains matching your brand; helping you identify potential trademark infringement, typosquatting, and phishing attacks.

Prerequisites

Before setting up brand monitoring, you need:

Available Pricing Plans

Plan Monitors Typosquatting Price/Year
Brand Monitoring (5 Monitors) 5 No $250
Brand Monitoring (10 Monitors) 10 No $400
Brand Monitoring (25 Monitors) 25 No $800
Brand Monitoring With Typos (5 Monitors) 5 Yes $900
Brand Monitoring With Typos (10 Monitors) 10 Yes $1,500
Need typosquatting detection? Choose a "With Typos" plan. These plans detect domains that are misspellings or visual look-alikes of your brand term, helping you catch phishing and impersonation attempts.

Purchase a plan

  1. Log in to your WhoisFreaks account
  2. Navigate to Billing and then Monitoring from the sidebar
  3. Select the Brand Monitoring plan that suits your needs
  4. Complete the checkout

Once your subscription is active, you can start adding brand terms to monitor immediately.

Visit the Brand Monitoring product page for full details.

Setting Up Your Brand Monitor

Step 1: Navigate to the Brand Monitor

Log in to your WhoisFreaks account and navigate to the Monitoring section. Click on the Brand Monitor tab.

The monitoring dashboard with the Brand Monitor tab selected, showing the "Brand Name" input field, "Add to Monitor" button, and the plan card on the right

Step 2: Add a Brand Term

Enter your brand name in the Brand Name input field and click "Add to Monitor".

Example

whoisfreaks
Tip: Choose a unique brand term. Common dictionary words like "cloud" or "google" will match thousands of domains. The more specific your term, the more relevant your results.

WhoisFreaks will queue the brand for monitoring. The system scans the global domain database for all domains containing your brand term.

Step 3: View Your Monitored Brands

After adding a brand, it appears in the brand monitoring table:

Column Description
Brand Name The term being monitored, with Active/Inactive status badge
Excluded Terms Terms you want to filter out from results
Last Changed When the last domain changes were detected
Status Active/Inactive toggle
Actions Edit and Delete buttons

If typosquatting is enabled for a brand, a "typos enabled" badge appears below the brand name.

Step 4: Configure Excluded Terms

Not all domains containing your brand term are relevant. You can exclude up to 10 terms to filter out false positives.

  • Click the "Edit" button on the brand's row
  • The edit panel opens
  • In the Excluded Terms field, type terms separated by commas

For example, if your brand is apple, you might exclude:

pineapple, applesauce, applewood
  1. Click "Save"
The brand edit panel showing the excluded terms input with tag chips, and the save button

Domains containing any excluded term will be filtered out from your change reports.

Step 5: Enable Typosquatting Detection

Requires a "With Typos" plan.

Typosquatting detection monitors domains that are misspellings or visual look-alikes of your brand term. For example, if your brand is whoisfreaks, typosquatting might catch wh0isfreakswhoisfreak, or whoisfreakss.

To enable:

  • Click "Edit" on the brand's row
  • Toggle "Enable Typo Squatting" on
  • Click "Save"
The edit panel with the Typo Squatting toggle enabled

Once enabled, typosquatting domains are included in all four change categories (added, dropped, updated, discovered) alongside the exact brand match results.

Step 6: View Brand Changes

When changes are detected, the Last Changed column shows the date. Click "View Changes" to open the brand changes modal.

View changes button
The brand changes modal showing the header with brand term, date entries in collapsible sections, and category badges (Added, Dropped, Updated, Discovered)

Each date section shows:

  • Summary badges: color-coded counts for Added (green), Dropped (red), Updated (amber), Discovered (blue)
  • Domain lists: up to 15 domains per category with lookup menus
  • Download button: export the full data as JSON

Step 7: Use Domain Lookup Tools

Each domain in the change list has a "Lookup" dropdown with quick links to:

Tool Description
WHOIS Lookup Current WHOIS record
WHOIS History Historical WHOIS records
SSL Lookup SSL certificate details
DNS Lookup DNS records
MX Lookup Mail exchange records
NS Lookup Nameserver records
DNS History Historical DNS records
The lookup dropdown expanded on a domain, showing all 7 tool links

These tools help you investigate suspicious domains matching your brand.

Step 8: Download Changes as JSON

Each date's changes can be downloaded as a JSON file for further analysis or archival.

Click the "Download JSON" button in the date section header. The file is named:

2025-05-11_whoisfreaks_brand-changes.json

The JSON includes the complete domain lists for all four categories without the 15-domain preview limit.

If typosquatting is enabled, the download includes typosquatting domains merged into the main lists.

Step 9: Set Up Telegram Notifications

Brand monitoring supports Telegram notifications so you receive alerts when new changes are detected.

  1. In the brand monitor section, find the Telegram Notifications card
  2. Click the Telegram login widget to link your Telegram account
  3. Once linked, toggle "Enable Notifications" on

You will receive Telegram messages whenever new brand changes are detected.

Step 10: Pause or Remove a Brand Monitor

Remove: Click the trash icon to permanently delete the brand monitor.
